Our Mission

Women in International Security (WIIS) is the first international, non-profit, non partisan organization dedicated to increasing the influence of women in the fields of foreign and defense affairs, while enhancing dialogue about international security issues.

Primarily based at Georgetown University in Washington DC, WIIS members include policymakers, military personnel, diplomats, students, legislative aides, researchers, journalists, business executives, and lobbyists.

A New Canadian Network

Operating from both McGill University and Université de Montréal, WIIS Canada seeks to build on the international network of Women in International Security to promote the work done by Canadian women; a field where their influence and visibility can be improved.

The need is evident for a greater presence for women in the international security field. Women are under-represented in various sectors of international affairs.

Women in International Security is the only global network actively advancing women's leadership, at all stages of their careers, in the field of international peace and security.

Recently established in Montréal, WIIS Canada is proud to be affiliated with the Centre for International Peace and Security Studies (CIPSS), dedicated to promote excellence in academic research and teaching on contemporary security and defence issues that concern Canada.

We hope you enjoy your visit!
